Desmitis of the Distal Interphalangeal Collateral Ligaments: 22 Cases
نویسنده
چکیده
Desmitis of the collateral ligaments of the distal interphalangeal joint should be considered as a differential diagnosis for foot lameness in the horse. The diagnosis is made through ultrasonography. Although the lameness is relatively uncommon, it occurs frequently enough to be a common cause of distal interphalangeal joint injection failure. Treatment consists of rest and controlled exercise. The prognosis is good for return to work. Magic angle effect in normal collateral ligaments of the distal interphalangeal joint in horses imaged with a high-field magnetic resonance imaging system.
Distal forelimb specimens of eight skeletally mature horses were imaged using proton density turbo spin echo, T1-weighted spoiled gradient echo, T2*-weighted gradient echo, short tau inversion recovery and T2-weighted fast spin echo sequences with the limb parallel to the main magnetic field, and with angulation of the limb relative to the main magnetic field. The magic angle effect can be iden...

OBJECTIVES To determine the outcome of treating distal interphalangeal joint collateral ligament (DIJCL) desmopathy using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-guided ligament injection. METHODS Medical records of 13 adult horses diagnosed with DIJCL desmopathy using low-field MRI and treated by MRI-guided ligament injection of mesenchymal stem cells and/or platelet-rich plasma (PRP) were reviewed...
متن کاملOutcome review on the percutaneous release of the proximal interphalangeal joint accessory collateral ligaments
The percutaneous release of accessory collateral ligaments was introduced in 1986 as a safe and quick procedure to be attempted before open, more extensive joint release in the treatment of proximal interphalangeal joint flexion contracture. Our study analyzed the long-term results and patient satisfaction following a percutaneous release in 30 joints after a mean follow-up period of 34 months....

Criteria for case selection within study. All horses were lame with the source of the lameness located to the stifle. No cases were included in this study with obvious radiographic or ultrasonographic abnormalities. (e.g. Osteochondrosis dissecans (OCD) of the lateral trochlear ridge, Osseous Cyst Like Lesion (syn bone cyst) on the medial femoral condyle, collateral ligament desmitis, patella f...
متن کاملOpen lateral collateral ligament injury of the interphalangeal joint of the great toe in adolescents during Taekwondo.
BACKGROUND Sports-related open lateral collateral ligament injury of the interphalangeal joint of the great toe has not been previously described in the English literature. HYPOTHESIS This injury can occur in adolescents while performing barefooted high-kicking or fast-running exercises involving rapid, 180 degrees turns on a dry, rough, wooden floor in a Taekwondo gymnasium. Injury occurs wh...
